WHO WE ARE

Mission Statement
Headwaters Counseling promotes, develops and empowers individuals, families and communities to have healthy relationships and make positive life choices.

Who We Are

Headwaters Counseling is a private, not for profit, 501(c)(3) agency in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We provide outpatient counseling services for persons who have behavioral health needs or are at risk of harmful involvement with alcohol or other drugs. In addition, we are a member of the Alliance for Children & Families and the Indiana Family Service Council.

Through a team approach and the active participation of the persons served, the overall goal of our program is to improve the quality of life and the functional abilities of the persons served.

We provide a combination of mental health counseling, outreach, and services for those who are at risk of harmful involvement with substance use disorders. We provide these services in a seamless system of care for individuals with needs in one or both areas, or for persons identified with dual disorders.

Who We Assist

We work with adults and children as young as age two.  We provide services that include individual, group, and family counseling and also psycho-education. These programs offer comprehensive, coordinated, and defined services that may vary in level of intensity according to to need.

In an outpatient setting, we address a variety of needs.  For example, people come to us needing assistance with situational stressors, family relationships,  interpersonal relationships, depression and anxiety, life span issues, psychiatric illnesses, alcohol or other drugs, sexual disorders, and trauma or abuse.

We provide these services primarily in our office setting located at 2712 S. Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In some cases, we provide services in alternative locations if it meets the needs of the persons served.

When appropriate, and with the consent of the person served, we will coordinate treatment with other services within our agency as well as other services in the community. We use treatment interventions that are recognized in the behavioral health field. All persons served are initially assessed to determine their strengths, needs, and goals for treatment. The person served takes an active part in this process.

Our direct service staff consists of master-level therapists, and Ph.D.'s who facilitate the assessment process. Exceptions may include graduate students who are under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist.

We use Person-centered therapy

Person centered therapy is a process that helps clients with their own self-discovery, self-acceptance and growth. In person centered therapy, the therapist is a compassionate facilitator who provides support, and guides the therapeutic process without interfering with the client’s process of self-discovery. We believe each person is the expert of their own story. Our therapists enjoy the privilege of walking alongside a client as they heal and grow. In person centered therapy each client helps to develop their own treatment plan and goals for therapy. There is a special focus on strengths as well as needs.

  • We offer a constant in the lives of children who are often moved around from one foster home to the next and have little stability otherwise.
  • We can teach a child that they are valued, they can be happy, they do not need to fear adults, they can have healthy relationships, and they do not deserve to be hurt by grown ups.
  • We have two play therapy rooms and an Art Therapist on staff.
  • We have several therapists who are wonderful at connecting with teenagers!
